There are difficult seasons of life where it feels like we’ve been forgotten. I’m thankful these feelings are captured even in the Bible, especially in the book of Psalms. David’s confessions of feeling lost and overlooked by God are comforting to me and were the inspiration for this song. When I reach out and ask God to remember me, I’m in good company. Even though He certainly does not need the reminder, the act of coming to him in honesty and need is the very place I can receive the truth of His goodness and nearness.
lyrics
Oh Lord, be mindful of me
Oh my Lord, be mindful of me
My spirit is willing, but my flesh is so weak
So Lord, be mindful of me
I’m just a poor child walking in a land of woe
But I’m trusting You, Jesus, every step that I go
If You’ll keep my feet on the narrow road
I’ll follow You on this journey home
This weight I carry is a load to bear
But I’ll cast on You each worry and care
I’ll hold Your hand through the darkest night
For Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light
This I know, that You love me
Step by step, You are the way
Day by day, Your hand will lead me
And one day I’ll see Your face
Until the day I rise up to be free
Oh, Lord, be mindful of me
